Lots of updates and great news, let's get into it!


  1.  DNV Annual Visit - Maybe the best one we have ever had, and its thanks to you!!  We ended up with one NC-1 (related to blood transfusion duration) and two NC-2 (physical plant related). The surveyors were very complementary of the entire organization with comment like
     *   "One of the best Academic Medical centers I've ever surveyed"
     *   "Your Nursing staff was so friendly, they actually wanted to talk to us and share the exciting things they were working on"
     *   "Your teams know what's happening, what the issues are, and how you are working to fix them"
     *   "Top 2-3% of all facilities I've been at"



  1.  Staffing
     *   We have hired over 95 new RNs this summer!
     *   RN turnover is down to 14.3% from a high of 35%
     *   HCT/UST turnover is down to 32% from a high of 44%
     *   LPN turnover is 12.4% down form a high of 25.5%
     *   We continue to work with State agencies in Albany to find ways to improve pay for our CSEA team as we have no ability to adjust that locally

  1.  Leadership Updates
     *   Kim Testa, MSN, RN, CCRN, has accepted the role of Nurse Manager for the RN Float/Support Pool at Community Hospital-Upstate effective July 20, 2023.
     *   Sean Todd BSN RN returns to our Upstate team in his new role as Nurse Manager of 5E Pre/Post
     *   Jessica Rauscher MSN, FNP-BC, OCN has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Nursing at the Upstate Cancer Center


  1.  New Dept of Medicine Chair - Dr Cynthia Taub MD, MBA will be joining us in August 2023. Dr Taub most recently served as Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine of Dartmouth Health's Heart and Vascular Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth



  1.  New Cardiac Surgeon - Dr Marek Polomsky MD is our new Division Chief for Cardiac Surgery and is here now. He was most recently a cardiac surgeon at the University of Vermont Medical Center



  1.  Kudos and Congrats
     *   Kyle Choquette and Becky Dwyer recently had a manuscript accepted and it will be published in the American Nurses Association  ANA Journal - Magnet Edition ( The biggest edition of the year!)  It will be given out to all 12,000 attendees at the Magnet conference as well. The article is on our success in building out and implementing Discharge Hospitality Centers at both Upstate University and Upstate Community hospital.
     *   Our fantastic Stroke, Heart failure, and Resuscitation teams were all recently awarded with top recognition by the  AHA Get With the Guidelines program



  1.  Upstate Cancer Center at Verona is on track to open this fall https://www.upstate.edu/cancer/about/locations/ucc-verona/index.php



  1.  Panera in GCH Treehouse
     *   Contracts being finalized
     *   Will require some construction/renovation
