Good Morning!

I have a few updates to the SANE presentation scheduled for Thursday:

New Title: Care of the deaf / hard of hearing victim

Also, Lindsay Ryan and Susan Freeman will be presenting with Anne. Please see below for their bios. This presentation should be amazing! Please don’t miss it!

Lindsay Ryan
Lindsay Ryan, a lifelong member of the Syracuse Deaf Community, has been connected with Vera House since 2007. Some of Lindsay’s experiences in the domestic and sexual violence field include working as the Empowerment Advocate with Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Victims, a Deaf-run domestic and sexual violence agency based in Rochester. Additionally, she worked as a Deaf Community Systems Change Advocate with Project EMERGE. Under Project EMERGE, Lindsay assisted with the development of various training curricula focused on understanding the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence and the intersectionality of disability and Deaf Culture. Social justice has been a continuing and lifelong journey for Lindsay in navigating this world to promote healthy and positive changes.

Susan Freeman, BS
 Credentials:
Manager of Interpreter Services at Upstate University Hospital
Bachelor of Science Degree from RIT/NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf) in ASL Interpreting
Certificate in Health Care Interpreting from RIT/NTID
Associates Degree in Accounting

Bio:
Sue Freeman, a graduate of RIT/NTID has been involved with American Sign Language Interpreting since 2012, all the while continuing to learn from and work with the Syracuse Deaf Community. In 2016, Sue became the Manager of the Interpreting Services Department at Upstate University Hospital. Upstate Interpreter Services Department provides access to over 200 language, with American Sign Language in the top five list of languages. Sue is also a member of Leadership Greater Syracuse Class of 2005. It was that experience which helped catapult Sue into this second career/goal of becoming an American Sign Language interpreter – that and the Deaf friends she had met and made during her time at RIT/NTID. Sue is also a member of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), and is working towards becoming a nationally certified interpreter. She is married and has 1 son, and the family enjoys camping, and especially sitting around a warm campfire.
