Cases for discussion:

  1.  A 47-year-old female with bipolar disorder presents to the emergency department with altered mental status and speech abnormalities. Vital signs: BP 115/75 mmHg, HR 62 beats/min, RR 18/min, T 36 C, 96% on RA
  2.  A 7 month old female is brought to the emergency department with sleepiness and change in behavior. Vitals are: BP 100/62 mmHg, HR 155 beats/min, RR 44 breaths/min, T 37.8, O2 sat 98%. While in the ED, she develops severe hypercapnia requiring intubation.
  3.  A 71 year old male presents to the ED with unresponsiveness. Vital signs are: Bp 147/59 mmHg, HR 71 beats/min, RR 25, T 93.7, 10% on RA. Blood gas results with a pH of 7.0.
