Toxicology Case Conference Cases for Discussion

Case 1

A 43-year-old male presents to the ED for multiple syncopal episodes today, describing intermittent sensation of palpitations with lightheadedness and a run of torsade de pointes (1 sec). Reports that he has not been sleeping well and has had a poor appetite over the past couple weeks.

VS: BP 97/82; HR 101; RR 19; 94% on RA



Case 2

A 29-year-old male BIBEMS as a trauma with burns after a microwave fire broke out in his hotel room. Patient was found in distress, able to speak, with stridor and soot in nares which prompted EMS to intubate.

VS on EMS arrival: BP 125/73, HR 107, RR 16, SaO2 90%, GCS 4



Case 3

A 77-year-old male stung multiple times ~100-150 bee stings with complaints of localized pain and edema.

VS: BP 170/120, HR 110, RR 21, SaO2 93%
