Sorry I'm missing discussion today, but the lag your cases may have been due to ingestion of amygdalin alone? Figure 5 in the paper you forwarded shows the blood [cyanide] goes up really fast with ingestion of bitter almonds (amygdalin plus beta-glucosidase) or cassava (linamarin plus beta-glucosidase) vs amygdalin alone. In that case the breakdown of the glycoside proceeds much more slowly without extrinsic beta-glucosidase packaged with the cyanogenic glycoside.
Of course, chewing your seeds fully and carefully also helps this process!

Fun paper on cyanogenic glycosides – serum CN peaks quite quickly, but for some reason the serum lactate we had in our amygdalin patients lagged behind this fairly significantly
