Automatic Shared Notes with Patients (Auto Note Release) is now live in Epic

Who is impacted?

  *   All providers including Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Residents and Medical Students.

What will be released to MyChart?

  *   Progress Notes
  *   H&Ps
  *   Discharge Summaries
  *   Consult Notes
  *   Procedure Notes
  *   Haiku Notes

Why are we doing this?

  *   The 21st Century Cures Act legislation finalized in March of 2020 requires that institutions and providers who offer patients a portal to access their health information, must also provide access to a subset of the electronic medical record which includes the above listed note types, along with other information. Failure to comply by April of 2021 can result in significant fines and or penalties for both the institution and individual provider.

What do you need to know?

  *   Information including a presentation from Dr. Deluca is attached. Within the presentation is information about how notes are shared and the acceptable reasons for exceptions (and how to perform an exception).
