[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Venous Blood Gas collection

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Venous Blood Gas Sample Collection: Samples for venous blood gas testing should be collected into a syringe, not drawn into a vacutainer tube.  Collection in a vacutainer tube results in significant inaccuracy in the testing results.  Starting March 1st, 2024, samples for venous blood gas testing must be submitted in syringes; samples submitted in vacutainer tubes will not be accepted.  Please refer to Upstate procedure CM-B-08A for correct collection techniques.  Please see the attached guidances for further details.
