[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - FOBT change; Aldosterone, Renin, & CMV IgM testing changes

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Change to FOBT testing:  Starting September 10th 2026, Fecal Occult Blood Testing orders (ICT Occult Blood, LAB8680; SENSA Occult Blood, LAB694; Insure Occult Blood, LAB8935) will be inactivated for all inpatient and adult ED patients.  These assays are intended for outpatient screening for colon cancer and are neither sensitive nor specific for active GI bleeding.  Please see the attached guidance for further details.



Aldosterone & Renin testing, CMV IgM testing:  Starting September 10th 2026, testing for Serum Aldosterone (LAB123152), Renin Activity (LAB123153), Aldosterone/Renin ratio (LAB123154), and CMV IgM (LAB123155) will be transitioned from a send-out testing to performed at SUNY Upstate laboratories.  This will allow for quicker testing turn-around time and consistency.  The normal ranges are different for the new in-house testing compared to the current send-out testing.
