[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Karius testing and Lyme PCR Fluid testing

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Change to Karius testing:  Starting September 17th 2026, Karius Blood Testing (Plasma Microbial Cell-free DNA) will be orderable via newly built order in Epic.  This testing should not be ordered using the "Miscellaneous" Epic orders.  To ensure appropriate usage, this order includes a cascade of questions and prompts and this order requires approval by Infectious Disease service.  Please see the attached guidances for further details.



Change to Lyme PCR Fluid testing:  Starting September 17th 2026, the Lyme PCR Fluid (Send Out) test order in Epic to restrict the testing only to synovial fluid.  This testing should not be ordered on CSF or serum/blood.  Please see the attached guidance for further details.
