Good morning,
I hope you are all treating yourselves to a hearty breakfast after last evening’s food scarcity. As not everyone was in attendance, I wanted to follow-up on a few items:
1- Dr. Auyon Ghosh’s introduction- We are thrilled to have another wonderful mentor and addition to the MDPhD family. Please see his introduction slides attached. Feel free to reach out to Dr. Ghosh, give a warm welcome and/or if you have any questions for him.
2. Student Panel- I am seeking 1-2 more student panelists for upcoming Interview Days (a 45 min afternoon session for October 15, 23 and November 12). Please let me know if you are interested in any or all the dates- a great way to get involved!
3. Clinical Mentorship Reboot (PhD’s)- I received a few clinical shadowing cards this week (yay!). Some students, along with their mentors, have written more of a “what we focused on” verses going in with a pre-meditated “goal” for the event. That is totally fine! Whatever works for you and your mentor is perfect. The purpose of the shadowing is for each of you to develop meaningful connections with your clinical mentors, get comfortable asking for feedback and receiving feedback and to facilitate conversation around the experience. Of course, keeping “clinically fresh” during your PhD years, too.
Guys, we are already engaging so much more with our clinical constituents than in the past. At first, it might feel silly obtaining a signature on an index card, but it has already proven to start conversation (verses the MedHub evals). Even though optional, all the clinical mentors, so far, have opted to write brief notes of feedback and/or focuses for the event and I would assume discussed the feedback and focus with the student, too.
Develop a schedule that works for you and your clinical mentor and obtain at least 7 cards by April 30th. Attend your scheduled Standardized Training event(s) each semester. Finally, take a few minutes to review the guidelines below (also on page 8 of your Clinical Shadowing Guide- attached).
[H8GaTu7mInjOwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==]Also- fantastic presentations by our MS1/2’s! Have a safe and restful weekend.
Best,
Andrea
