[epicproviders] Effective 6/25/2026: LAB8954 Thyroid Function Algorithm replace LAB129 TSH

Attention ALL Providers: Emergency, Ambulatory, and Inpatient

Based on a QI initiative to promote subsequent thyroid testing in hospitalized patient, rather than blanketed testing, modifications are being made which are approved by the Department of Endocrinology.

This targeted and stepwise approach to thyroid testing is recommended rather than ordering multiple tests simultaneously. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) should be the initial screening test as it serves as the most reliable marker of thyroid function in most cases.

Effective Thursday June 25, 2026,  All Providers are impacted by changes to reflex testing based on the initial TSH level for LAB8954 Thyroid Function Algorithm. Order sets and preference lists are adjusted to have LAB8954 Thyroid Function Algorithm replace LAB129 TSH.
