[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Microbiology testing change and Kleihauer Betke testing change

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Microbiology testing change: Starting January 22nd, 2026, multiple microbiology tests will be available as separately coded Epic orders rather than using the Microbiology Miscellaneous order.  This should decrease confusion and errors in ordering these assays.  Please see the attached guidance for more details.



In-house Kleihauer Betke testing: Starting February 5th, 2026, Kleihauer Betke testing to quantitate fetal-maternal hemorrhage will transition from a send-out test to performed in-house at the Community Campus Blood Bank.  This will allow greater availability of the testing and greater consistency of results.  Please see the attached guidance for more details.
